Café and Playground Combo: Sugar at Chelsea Bay

the playground and food at Sugar at Chelsea Bay

Sink your teeth into the Sugar at Chelsea Bay Café, Birkenhead’s newest sweet spot for parents to dine with their kids, complete with an all-weather adventure playground and stellar sea views.

The brainchild of the geniuses behind hot-spots Winona Forever (and if you haven’t been there, you are seriously missing out), it’s no surprise that Sugar at Chelsea Bay has a menu to die for, with sweet and savoury treats galore, and even a high-tea option if you book in advance!

The layout and location, however, is arguably as sweet as the food. Situated on the site of the Chelsea Sugar factory, the café décor blends sugar-sweet tones with the sophistication of fine dining. In the heart of the café, families can dine beneath neon signs in cosy corner nooks packed with pink cushions and pastel pink plates to match.

For the view-seekers, the open conservatory provides incredible views of the Waitemata Harbour, and parents can continue to dine while keeping eyes on their children playing on the exciting adventure playground. At a comfortable enough distance to keep tabs on the kids without having the sounds of play marring your mocha, the kids will have fun burning off the sugar from lunch with a range of climbing walls, a fun slide, and a swing big enough for two.

After lunch, head to the interactive centre, where the kids can take part in digital cooking lessons and activities galore, or hop on the Chelsea Bay train, where kids and adults alike can marvel at the 30,000 sugar mountain on site, or taste sweet syrups!

Between the delicious menu and pairing views with play, Sugar at Chelsea Bay café is the perfect place to have your next coffee and playdate with friends, or the sweetest spot to eat with the family.
