5 bubble teas in Auckland the kids have to try

Where to find bubble tea in auckland

As fun to say as it is to drink, bubble tea or ‘boba’ is bursting onto the Auckland scene. Boba is a tea-based drink that usually contains toppings such as tapioca pearls or fruit jelly. We sipped and scoped the streets to find the best bubble tea in Auckland for the kids.

Gong Cha

Where? 38 Lorne Street, Auckland CBD

Founded in Taiwan, Gong Cha bubble tea has gone global with over 600 stores all over the world. Gong Cha prides itself on freshly brewed tea and their huge range of drinks on offer. The kids will love the signature milk tea with oreo crumbs, and adding tapioca pearls will give them an extra fun chew with their drink – yum! If they’re feeling adventurous, give their new cheese milk foam series a try.

Chatime

Where? 350 Queen Street, Auckland CBD

Chatime is an incredibly popular bubble tea hotspot in the CBD, and for good reason! Cha means tea in many Asian languages, so Chatime literally means tea time. Their extensive range of teas means there’s something for everyone, and their kumara fries are too good for words! Our faves include the strawberry slush and the kumquat lemon juice with extra rainbow jelly topping.

Hulucat Tea & Mocktail

Where? 16 Wellesley Street West, Auckland CBD

Between the sweet drinks and the adorable cups, Hulucat is one of our fave places to grab a bubble tea. Affordable and filling, the team at Hulucat have an exciting menu with delicious flavours such as pineapple green tea and passionfruit slushies, and we rate the caramel milk tea with mini black pearls. Not craving a tea? Check out one of their ‘cream crustys’, which is similar to an icecream mixed with a frappe (we love the almond chocolate cream!).

Yutea

Where? 301 Lincoln Road, Henderson

One of the best out West, Yutea is one of the cosiest places to grab a bubble tea with the kids. Decked out with plenty of blankets and couches to chill on, this hidden gem is loaded with lots of games and activities for everyone from Jenga to a good ol’ book. Yutea ticks all the right boxes in the food and drink department – we love their peanut butter thick toast and the watermelon bubble tea – and if you dine in, your bubble tea comes in a cute cup with googly eyes!

V & V Bubble Tea

Where? 368 Queen Street, Auckland CBD

For a truly unique boba experience, head to V&V Bubble Tea. Praised for their incredibly cheerful staff and atmosphere, V&V has a huge range of delicious drinks, including the aptly named Smurf Smurf Lemon and Lychee tea, a blue sweet drink that is as pretty as it is delicious! The real highlight, however, are the artistic abilities of the staff. If you order in advance, try asking for a special drawing or a character on your cup, and prepare to be blown away with the coolest customised artwork on your drink at pick-up time – how good!
