Overnight oats

Overnight oats are the perfect brekkie for children and this recipe is so easy, older kids can make it themselves.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup milk (or almond milk or soy milk)
  • ¼ cup yoghurt (coconut yoghurt or Greek yoghurt work well)
  • ¼ cup raisins or sultanas
  • ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • ¼ cup walnuts

Method

In a medium-sized jar, layer all ingredients, following the order of the list at left. Place the lid on the jar, and leave in the refrigerator overnight.

In the morning, pour the ingredients into a bowl.

Eat cold or heat in the microwave if you prefer
a warmer, porridge-like breakfast. Add extra milk if needed.

Tip: Soaking oats overnight breaks down their starch and makes them much easier for your body to digest and absorb all the good nutrients. It also saves time in the morning, with breakfast already prepared!
