5 ways to make your Moana costume a standout!

It isn’t unusual if your young one wants to be just like Moana (even if it's just for a few hours!). Your children - just like ours - probably won't stop going on about their favourite scene or how much they love the characters. Here are some tips to help your child achieve this by making their Moana costume epic.

 Pendant Necklace

Creating Moana's pendant necklace is the perfect arts and crafts DIY. Whether you want to go all out or stick with a simple design, making a necklace similar to Moana’s is simple, fun, and affordable!

 What you’ll need:

  • Brown hemp/string
  • Range of coloured modelling clay (green/blue/brown/white recommended)
  • White beads
  • Toothpick
  • Scissors
  • Jump ring

Flower headpiece

To channel Moana’s tropical-themed outfit, including flowers in your kid's costume is a must. Making your own flower headpiece is another fun DIY project for the weekend and can be achieved in no time.

What you’ll need:

  • Long strip of thin cardboard
  • Glue
  • Fake or real flowers

Cut a strip of cardboard to wrap around your child's head, and staple or glue the ends to create a hoop. Glue fake or real flowers to the outside. Allow to dry, and voila - a simple flower crown.

 Your own sidekick

Pua the Pig was undoubtedly one of you and your children’s favourite characters in Moana! To ensure your child's costume is complete, they will need their own sidekick to accompany them for the day. Whether they use their favourite stuffed toy, or a cute pig like Pua, they will enjoy their Moana-inspired day even more with a fluffy friend by their side.

Hula skirt

In a range of different colours, hula skirts can be found at nearly every novelty store in New Zealand. Moana’s grass skirt is vital to her look, and is needed to ensure your children's Moana costume is just awesome. An alternative to a hula skirt is buying an authentic Polynesian sarong, which is just as beautiful.

Your own Kakamora coconuts

Everyone remembers the ultimate villains in Moana - the Kakamora coconuts! What better way to make your costume or party more epic with some crazy armoured coconut pirates onsite.

What you’ll need:

  • A large coconut from your local grocery store
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
