Dropping the baubles

Kia Ora,

It’s official. The last-week-of-school craziness is upon us.

This week at my daughter’s Primary School we’ve had Tent Day, Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Outdoor Painting and Gardening Day, and in the coming days it’s an end-of-year morning tea (what to bring?!) as well as other festivities. I’m lucky enough to be able to attend some of these things with her (I have a toddler at home with me two days a week, so it gives us both an outing), but it’s this time of year when I totally take my hat off to parents – particularly solo parents and parents who both work full time. You are incredible!

But the good news is, it’s very much okay to feel like you’re dropping some balls (or should I say, baubles!) at this time of year. It’s okay to say ‘no thanks’ to things that don’t actually serve you or your family – and it’s crucially important to look after yourself as a busy parent too. You can’t look after others if you don’t look after yourself.

I wish you well in this hectic pre-holiday time. We’re all in this together.
