Auckland's circus playgrounds

Young boy juggling at an auckland circus playground

If your young one can’t stop juggling all the apples and oranges at home (and you’d rather use that fruit for lunch), you’re in luck. Auckland is a carnival playground,  with endless opportunities for your kids to get involved and learn from the experts. Here’s a master list of Auckland’s circus playgrounds!

GET INVOLVED

LEARN TO FLY

Flip N Fly, located in Eden Terrace and Silverdale, Auckland, is a quality circus school that runs classes and workshops for kids five and up. Children are encouraged to have fun and make new friends while learning circus skills including trapeze, juggling, trampoline, and flexibility. Watch out – they might just be walking around the house on their hands soon!

CARNIVAL CHALLENGE

Run by experienced Circability teachers, 10-week terms of classes will be held at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre. Children between five to seven and eight to thirteen will be taught the challenges and fun that come with performing in a circus environment. Make sure you sign up before the next term begins.

AERIAL ACTION

Located in Penrose, Auckland, The Dust Palace provides children with the opportunity to learn aerial-focussed classes and also a range of other exciting skills. There are introductory beginner classes appropriate for first-timers, and holiday programmes for those with a busy term schedule.

OUT AND ABOUT

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

Some of the most talented circus performers will take the stage this September at Spark Arena, Auckland, for six incredible shows. Inspired by Avatar, Cirque Du Soleil will amaze you with its visuals, costumes, storytelling and overall cinematic skill. This will be the ultimate family night out, though be prepared, as tickets start from $75.

KIDZ KINGDOM

If the family is up for some weekend or holiday fun, Auckland’s Rainbow’s End has an awesome area dedicated to children under eight. In this area, there is plenty of carnival-inspired fun, including the magic dragon bikes, carousel, and circus characters.
