Need to know

The Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) offers families a fun, interactive and educational experience based on New Zealand’s transport, technology, and social history.

At MOTAT 1 on Great North Road, you’ll find an array of interactive experiences and exhibitions. The Pumphouse, historic Village, model railway, firehouse and changing exhibitions provide hours of entertainment for kids and grownups alike.

Over at MOTAT 2 on Meola Road, explore the Aviation Display Hall and marvel at the collection of aircraft on display, one of the largest aviation collections in the Southern Hemisphere.

Kids are well-catered for at MOTAT with a range of interactive exhibitions that encourage learning and fun!

There are also events throughout the year that are included in MOTAT general admission, which make a visit even more magical. Every third Sunday of the month is LIVE Day where you can see the operational Collection spring into action and visitors can enjoy rides on trams, trains and other transport, among other interactive displays and experiences.

Plus, the onsite café at MOTAT 1 provides a great pitstop location for hungry tummies and great coffee for the adults! Families can also bring their own picnics to enjoy on the grounds of MOTAT, a popular choice on sunny days.
