St George’s Hospital

249 Papanui Road, Christchurch 8014

Need to know

St George’s Hospital has been caring for Canterbury women and their babies since 1941. With that level of experience we really do understand that every family/whanau has different needs and requirements.

The hospital’s newly refurbished maternity unit is renowned for its caring and homelike environment where women and their babies come first.

If you choose tobirth at St George’s, a free primary birthing facility, you can be assured that you are in safe hands. The maternity unit has experienced midwives and nurses, a lactation consultant and physiotherapist.

St George’s also provides postnatal care free of charge for women who are transferring from Christchurch Women’s Hospital.

A lactation consultant is available four mornings a week through our free breastfeeding drop-in clinic, open to all women in the postnatal period – regardless of whether you received maternity care at St George’s or another birthing facility.
